How’s The Greatest? Luke 22:24-30

Summary

Have you ever noticed how deeply ingrained the desire for greatness is in us?
From childhood, we want to be the fastest, the strongest, the smartest, the one who stands out above the rest.
The disciples were no different.
Even at the Last Supper—moments before Jesus would walk the road to the cross—they were arguing about who among them was the greatest (Luke 22:24).
They had seen His miracles, heard His teaching, and yet they still thought in terms of position, power, and prestige.

But Jesus, with great patience, redefined what true greatness is.
He showed them—and us—that greatness in the kingdom of God does not come through lording authority over others, but through humility, service, and surrender.
In His words, “But I am among you as the one who serves” (Luke 22:27).
Today, let’s allow Jesus to reset our understanding of what it means to be great.
